Man rushed to hospital following shooting in Durban

A man was reportedly shot by a paramedic on the scene of an accident in Mayville, KwaZulu-Natal.

One person was injured in a shooting incident on the N3 highway in Mayville, Durban, just before midnight on Sunday, when an off-duty paramedic opened fire.

According to  SAPS spokesperson. Captain Carmen Rhynes, police have opened a case of attempted murder for investigation following the incident.

“Information at police’s disposal suggests that an off duty paramedic came across an accident scene and she stopped to assist. She reportedly assessed the situation and went back to her vehicle to fetch her equipment when another vehicle bumped her vehicle from behind.

“Three men allegedly got out of the said vehicle and an argument erupted. One of the men allegedly drew a firearm and the paramedic also drew her privately licenced firearm and shot at the gun-wielding man,” said Rhynes.

Rhynes said the man was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound and the other two men got back into the vehicle and fled from the scene.

“Police have since seized the firearms for further investigations. No one has been charged as yet as investigators are still collecting more information about the incident,” concluded Rhynes.
