Man shoots wife and two children before turning the gun on himself

Circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated.

The provincial commissioner of Mpumalanga, Lt Gen Semakaleng Manamela, has strongly condemned a domestic violence incident in which a 32-year-old woman and her two children, aged 10 and four, were shot and killed by her husband.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at around 21:30 at Tonga in Nkomazi.

The 36-year-old husband was found with a gunshot wound.

A firearm belonging to him was also found in the house.

According to Col Donald Mdhuli, the SAPS members in Tonga and medical personnel were notified about the incident

“Upon their arrival, the woman and one of the children were certified dead at the scene by paramedics.

“The other child was taken for medical treatment by a family member but was certified dead on arrival at the hospital. The SAPS members opened a case of three counts of murder and an inquest.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that after shooting them he called other members of the family to inform them of what had occurred before turning the gun on himself.

“The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage. Circumstances surrounding this shocking incident are being investigated,” he said.

The provincial commissioner further indicated that the incident is regrettable and made a call to members of the society to seek professional help whenever they come across life challenges.
