Man shot dead, 2 critical following Ekurhuleni house robbery
Police are urging the public to come forward with information following a murder and house robbery.
A 61-year-old man was murdered and two others left critically injured during a house robbery in Norkem Park, Ekurhuleni, early this morning.
Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Barbara-Anne Ferreira says police officers were called to the scene at 03:00.
On arrival, officers found three men who had been shot, she adds.
“The father, aged 61, was declared dead at the scene.
“The two other men were taken to Sunward Park and Thembisa hospitals for treatment,” says Ferreira.
According to information received, the men were woken up when three unknown men forced open the property’s front door.
“The victims woke up and the suspects demanded they hand over their cell phones,” says Ferreira.
The robbers then fled the scene.
“During investigations, one of the cell phones was found near the house.
“Five spent cartridges were found on the scene,” she says.
The reason for the murder is unknown.
“The two surviving victims [are] in critical condition in hospital.
“A case of house robbery, murder and attempted murder was opened and will be investigated.”
Lieutenant Colonel John Jones, the head of detectives at Norkem Park SAPS, appeals to anyone with information to contact the station on 011 960 0370.
