Man sought after grandson (6) discovers Limpopo cop’s body

Police hunt suspect and appeal for information after a sergeant's abandoned vehicle was found 50km away from where her grandson discovered her body.

Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has ordered police to track and trace the suspect involved in the attack and murder of a female police sergeant (47) from the Waterberg District.

Polokwane Review reports the victim, attached to the Rooiberg Police Station in the Waterberg District, reportedly returned home on Saturday night with her boyfriend before her body was discovered by her six-year-old grandson the following morning.

The boyfriend and the sergeant’s vehicle were missing.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba states neighbours reported the matter to the police, and emergency services declared the victim dead at the scene.

“The sergeant’s private vehicle was discovered abandoned about 50km from her home along the Thabazimbi Road near Koedoeskop,” his statement reads.

Ledwaba adds the motive behind the murder remains unclear, although domestic violence cannot be ruled out at this stage.

Hadebe condemns the incident and has directed police to mobilise all available resources to locate and apprehend the suspect.

The police are appealing to Ben Molefe Malebye (43) to come forward to the nearest police station, as he may possess critical information that could assist in resolving the case.

“We urge anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Colonel Simon Mogale at 071 479 2329, the Crime Stop hotline on 08600 10111, or via the MySAPS app.”
