Man sought in connection with acid attack, rape and hacking of girlfriend in Limpopo

Police have launched a manhunt for a man who allegedly brutally attacked his girlfriend.

A 44-year-old woman had acid poured on her face, was raped and hacked with a panga, leading to injuries on her left arm, allegedly by her boyfriend following a heated argument.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has ordered the Lebowakgomo Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit to work tirelessly to hunt down the man responsible for the attack.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the incident occurred in Thokgoaneng Village in Ga-Chuene in the Lebowakgomo policing area in Limpopo on Friday night.

He says the police’s information suggests that the victim was at the suspect’s home when the attack occurred.

“The suspect fled the scene following the ordeal,” says Ledwaba.

A case of rape and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm has been opened.

Hadebe condemned the incident and gender-based violence, which continues to plague the province.

Anyone with information is urged to contact investigating officer Detective Sergeant Sarah Mokoena on 082 469 1173, Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or their nearest police station. Information can also be reported via the MySAPS App.
