The Mataffin community allegedly set alight Samuel Mangebeletane Tsela (63), one of the people previously suspected of being involved in the brutal mutilation of Bontle Mashiyane in Mganduzweni more than a year ago.

Little Bontle’s murder made national headlines when she was reported missing at the end of April and her mutilated body found in May.

Five people were charged for Mashiyane’s murder and rape. Tsela’s charges were withdrawn in July due to a lack of evidence.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, Mpumalanga SAPS spokesperson says police were called to a scene where a man was burned to death by community members last night.

The man was identified as Tsela by his family.

Mohalala says Tsela was hiding in a house when the community found him and set him alight.

Tsela, was a traditional healer and Mashiyane’s neighbour at the time of her death.

A case of murder has been opened with the Nelspruit Police Station following the burning.
