Manhunt launched after councillor killed in Gqeberha office shooting

Armed men stormed a Zwide office during a meeting, held attendees at gunpoint and fatally shot a ward councillor before fleeing.

Police have launched a manhunt after a ward councillor was shot dead during a meeting at his office in Zwide, Gqeberha, on Friday evening.

The Witness reports that SAPS said the shooting occurred at 18:50 while a meeting attended by around 10 people was underway.

Armed suspects storm office

It is alleged that two armed men entered the office and held those present at gunpoint, ordering them to hand over their cellphones.

One of the men then allegedly opened fire on a 45-year-old man, striking him multiple times before the pair fled the scene.

Victim declared dead

The victim sustained several gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene.

Police have launched a manhunt for the two suspects and are appealing to anyone with information that could assist in their arrest to contact their nearest police station.
