March and March halts Durban protests after court interdict
Demonstrators gathered outside court as leaders agreed to temporary halt protests ahead of local elections.
Scores of protesters, supported by different political parties, camped for hours outside the Durban Magistrate’s Court yesterday, (October 30) while March and March leadership were inside as an interim interdict case was being heard, reports Berea Mail.

The legal tussle emanated from the urgent court application by Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia and KZN Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi against the anti-illegal immigration group March and March.

The Durban High Court granted an interim interdict on Wednesday, October 28, following weeks of volatile anti-immigration protests in the Durban CBD.
After hours of chanting outside the court, the March and March leaders addressed the masses, with the movement’s leader, Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, leading with Struggle songs.
“We are in court today. The people who fought for democracy dragged us here. They know the pain of fighting for your country but today, they’re fighting us for wanting to protect the same against illegal foreigners.

“As they continue to live lavish lifestyles, let us applaud ourselves for continuing to fight. We’ve done well,” Ngobese-Zuma said.
Xolani Zuma, the lawyer for March and March, explained to the crowd the court’s “wisdom” in today’s ruling.
He urged the marchers to abide by the courts ruling.
“After today, we will cease the protests until November 6. To allow the LGE 2026 operations to continue. On November 7, we pick up where we left off, with court’s conditions. Protests should take place between 10:00 and 15:00. No weapons, no masks.
“The war we are fighting is spiritual in nature. Fighting for a country we were born into, and shall leave it for generations to come. God is doing the work,” concluded Zuma.
Ngobese-Zuma encouraged the marchers to go out in numbers to cast their votes, to ensure that those who arrest them are stripped of power.
The case will resume on January 18, 2027.
