News of Mike Schüssler’s passing was shared by his wife on Facebook this morning.

In a post, Greta Moodie wrote “I am absolutely broken this morning. My dearest, kindest, most wonderful husband, Mike Schussler, passed away this morning after a very short battle with cancer. I have lost the love of my life and South Africa has lost a giant.”

Schüssler was the head economist at Economists.co.za and was a familiar face and voice on TV and radio where he unpacked complicated issues to make it understandable for ordinary South Africans.

After news of his passing, tributes have been pouring in on social media.

So sad to hear of the passing of @mikeschussler . Always a pleasure to chat to him to unpack issues way beyond my understanding. He was one of the good guys. Condolences to his family and friends.
