Millions of child pornography media files found: Midrand couple denied bail
Two people facing multiple charges, including manufacturing, selling, producing and possession of child pornography, will remain in custody until their next court appearance in March.
The Randburg Magistrate’s Court has denied bail to a Midrand couple who were arrested for the possession of millions of child pornography images and videos.
According to an article published by Midrand Reporter, Darren Wilken and Tiona Megan Moodley appeared in court yesterday and will remain in custody until their next court appearance on March 24.
In her ruling, Magistrate Pravina Raghunandan argued that the couple’s release on bail would undermine public peace and the safety of children. She said it would also jeopardise the interests of justice.
Wilken (35) was arrested in his Midrand home on January 17, while Moodley (25), a web designer by profession, was arrested 11 days later in Houghton.
They are facing multiple charges, including manufacturing, selling, producing and possession of child pornography content and money laundering.
NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjondonwane said they welcomed the court’s decision, citing the couple is a flight risk.
“They must be kept in custody because the interests of justice do not permit their release on bail. Should they be found guilty, we hope they get a lengthy prison term,” said Mjondondwane.
