KZN’s Alexandra police have opened an inquest after the bodies of a 27-year-old woman and her one-year-old son were discovered in Alexandra Park in Pietermaritzburg, KZN, yesterday.

It is believed that mother and son, who have not yet been identified, were poisoned.

According to Midlands EMS, their crew was dispatched to the park shortly after being notified of the bodies.

“It is suspected that the mother killed herself and the child by having them both ingest some form of poison, as an empty yoghurt container was found next to the bodies,” says Roland Robertson, the national manager of Midlands EMS.
