Mom in court for allegedly killing daughter
A 42-year-old woman who has been charged with the murder of her two-year-old infant, will appear again in the Durban Magistrates’ Court soon.
Greenwood Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Leon Audh said the child’s uncle rushed her to the KwaMashu Poly Clinic on Saturday, with severe injuries to her face and head. Three days later, however, the baby girl died due to the extent of her injuries, Northglen News reported.
Audh added the uncle raised allegations of abuse shortly after the incident, which resulted in a murder case being opened by the state.
The mother appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. She has not pleaded and is expected to make another court appearance soon.
In a separate incident, a 24-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly killing her baby girl in the KwaMnyandu area, Mbazwana, KwaZulu-Natal, in April.
It is alleged the suspect gave birth to the infant at about 11pm. She allegedly killed it shortly after.
Major Thulani Zwane said the suspects then went to the Mseleni Hospital and confessed she cut her baby to death. The doctor she spoke to reported the matter to the Mbazwana police, who arrived at the hospital and arrested the suspect.
The suspect appeared in the Mbazwana Magistrate’s Court facing a charge of murder.
