Mom in court for newborn’s death in Lotus River
A Cape Town woman faces a murder charge after her newborn was found in a stormwater drain.
A Lotus River mother, who allegedly abandoned her newborn baby girl in a stormwater drain, appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court yesterday (May 5).
Ireesha Francis (31) faces a charge of murder.
Eric Ntabazalila, the spokesperson for the NPA, says the case was postponed to May 14 for a bail application.
Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the Western Cape police spokesperson, says the baby was reported missing on Saturday (May 2).
He adds that her body was discovered the next day in a drain at the corner of 2nd Avenue and Antelope Street.
“The Grassy Park police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he adds.
