More than 100 learners taken to hospital in Ermelo

Dozens of learners from a high school in Ermelo were transported to a local hospital after they complained of diarrhea and stomach cramps.

More than 100 learners were transported from Lindile High School to Ermelo Provincial Hospital this morning after they complained of diarrhea and stomach cramps.

According to a teacher at the school, the ambulance service was called to assess the children. The cause of the children’s symptoms is unknown at this stage.

There were several theories as to the cause of the problem, and some of the teachers mentioned that the school was without water on Tuesday, and when the water finally returned, it was dirty and full of mud.

A teacher said that brown soup was served at the school, and some of the learners claimed to have eaten beans.

The Highvelder has sent inquiries to the principal and Msukaligwa Local Municipality regarding the incident, and is awaiting their responses.
