Mother and 2 young children ejected in N1 crash in Centurion
A family was taken to hospital after a vehicle left the roadway in a crash that left emergency crews responding late into the night.
A mother and her two young children were injured when their car struck a roadside barrier and plunged down an embankment on the N1 in Centurion last night (October 26).
CERT Centurion emergency crews responded to the crash near the John Vorster Road off-ramp at approximately 22:30, reports Pretoria Rekord.
According to CERT Centurion, the vehicle left the roadway, collided with a roadside barrier and travelled down an embankment.
The mother, who is in her thirties, and her two children were reportedly ejected from the vehicle during the collision.
The mother and her approximately two-year-old son sustained serious injuries, while her four-year-old daughter sustained moderate injuries.
Emergency responders treated and stabilised all three at the scene before Nels EMS transported them to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
The exact circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear.
Following the crash, CERT reminded motorists to wear seatbelts and secure children in properly installed, age-appropriate child safety seats. The organisation did not specify whether seatbelts or child restraints were being used at the time of the collision.
It also urged motorists to adjust their speed to road and weather conditions, maintain a safe following distance and remain alert when driving at night.
“Our thoughts are with the injured family, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery,” CERT Centurion said.
