Motorists warned after Amanzimtoti sinkhole swallows car

A sinkhole has opened on Wanda Cele Road, with emergency services warning motorists to exercise caution as more rain is expected.

Motorists using Wanda Cele Road (Old Main Road) in Amanzimtoti today are urged to exercise caution after the roadway collapsed near Zulwini Gardens, creating a dangerous sinkhole.

According to South Coast Sun, a vehicle plunged into the gaping hole earlier today as it was filled with water and the unsuspecting driver drove into it unknowingly.

Emergency services and eThekwini Municipality have been notified, and work to secure the hole and make it visible to road users will commence soon.

The South African Weather Service has predicted more disruptive rain over the weekend along the coastal areas.
