Mpumalanga court grants bail to smuggling accused
Various fake takkie brands were seized by law enforcement officers following a search of a truck passing through the Mozambiquan border into South Africa.
Vusi Victor Nkosi (38), who was arrested for allegedly transporting over R4m worth of counterfeit goods, was released on R10 000 bail by the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga on Tuesday.
Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi says Nkosi was arrested on September 6, on the N4 near the Lebombo Border Post.
The Mbombela Hawks, along with the South African National Defence Force, Komatipoort SAPS and SARS Customs and Excise officials were at the port of entry performing their daily duties when they stopped and searched the truck Nkosi was driving.

Sekgotodi says the truck, which had two trailers, was travelling from Mozambique to South Africa.
During the search, counterfeit sneakers, branded as Nike, New Balance, Diesel, Lacoste and Reebok, with an estimated street value of R4.5m, were found, she adds.
Nkosi was charged with the contravention of the provisions of the Counterfeit Goods Act 37 of 1997.
The matter was postponed to October 20, for affidavits to be obtained from the brand holders, and will be transferred to the Specialised Commercial Crime Court.
His bail conditions require him to report to the investigating officer weekly.
