No bomb found at Highveld Mall in Mpumalanga

An unknown caller allegedly made a false bomb scare at Saveways Crescent centre and ABSA Bank in Highveld mall in Witbank, Mpumalanga.

Police spokesperson Constable Cornie De Lange said after the bomb squad and dog unit gave the go-ahead at Highveld Mall at around 12.45pm on Monday, they went to Saveways Crescent, but nothing was found there either, Witbank News reported.

As soon as the dog unit and bomb squad cleared the bank, the shopping centre opened again for trading.

Last month, a docket was opened and a case of bomb scare hoax was being investigated following a bomb scare at the Eastgate Shopping Centre in Bedfordview, Johannesburg.

According to the Bedfordview police, centre management received an e-mail at about 4pm, claiming that there were bombs placed in all the centre’s entry points which would explode within two hours.

Shoppers and tenants were evacuated as a precaution. Hours after the bomb squad and K-9 units had entered the centre, the area was declared safe and no explosives were found.
