No floating bodies at Durban cemetery – councillor

Councillor Aubrey Snyman dismisses social media claims of floating bodies near Wentworth cemetery, confirming heavy rains only caused grave damage.

Ward 68 councillor Aubrey Snyman has rejected social media reports claiming that dead bodies were floating on the road near the Wentworth cemetery in Durban.

According to Southlands Sun, Snyman says water from Wentworth Hospital gushed towards the cemetery, causing excessive damage to some graves.

While the top part of the cemetery, including granite tombstones, was washed away, Snyman assures residents that no bodies were dislodged due to the collapse of the soil following heavy rains over the weekend.

“The Parks and Recreation team from eThekwini Municipality is assessing the damage at the grave site. This is not the first incident; it has happened before. This is mainly caused by a poor drainage system,” says Snyman.

He warns the public to refrain from spreading false information.
