‘No waste will be collected until a resolution has been reached’ – Tshwane Environmental MMC
“The illegal waste collection strike is now in full swing.”

“No waste will be collected until a resolution has been reached,” the Tshwane Department of Environment and Agriculture Management MMC has revealed on Monday.
This comes as the Tshwane metro informed its customers about the disruption of waste collection services, which occurred in various parts of the metro on Friday, last week.
Tshwane spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo, said the disruption came as a result of a dispute by service providers contracted to the metro who started demonstrations in Pretoria CBD.
“It is against the above-mentioned context that Tshwane residents are forewarned to anticipate a delay in waste collection that was hampered by the protest action.
“The metro is actively implementing a catch-up plan which includes waste collection operations that will run into the weekend for areas that have been affected, mostly in parts of region 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6.”
Department of Environment and Agriculture Management MMC Dana Wannenburg said, “the illegal waste collection strike is now in full swing”.
Wannenburg said the contractors refused to perform any household waste collection and have unlawfully blocked access to all landfill sites.
“They are preventing any waste disposal from taking place. Garden refuse sites are also affected.”
He said the Tshwane metro was in continuous engagement with contractors, and “no waste will be collected until a resolution has been reached”.
