‘Notorious’ criminal arrested with drugs, revolver
A man described as a “notorious criminal” has been arrested after he was caught with an unlicensed firearm and drugs in Eastleigh, Edenvale, on the East Rand.
Edenvale acting police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Robbie Roberts said sector police officers were patrolling in Eastleigh on Friday and identified the vehicle the suspect, Gary Beuthin, was travelling in as suspicious, Bedfordview Edenvale News reported.
“He was ordered to stop, and officers found the firearm, a .38 Special revolver, hidden in the car as well as drugs,” added Roberts.
Beuthin has had a string of arrests from the 1980s, including kidnapping, drug possession, attempted murder and armed robbery, among others. He has a history of serious and violent crimes. He also currently has a number of cases pending against him, said Roberts.
Roberts added Beuthin was still in police custody. Investigations are ongoing.
In a separate incident, three suspects dubbed “notorious house robbers” were arrested following a high-speed chase in Centurion, Pretoria, last month.
Lyttelton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu said that while patrolling Sector 2, police officers received a call about a housebreaking in progress. While patrolling the area, police officers spotted a suspicious white Toyota Conquest Carri panel van.
“When police tried to pull over the vehicle, the occupants sped off and police gave chase. Police continued to chase and managed to stop them on the corner of Langebrink Road and Kruger Avenue,” added Gumbu.
“When police officers questioned the suspects, they found two plasma TVs in the vehicle. The men claimed the TVs belonged to them and they were taking them in for repair. When the officers searched the vehicle they found a kettle, a cellphone, make-up bag and a Fossil watch.”
