The situation escalated, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.

The incident occurred at around 15:00 at the officer’s home in Bombay Heights.

“It was a terrifying scene,” says a neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous. “We heard loud voices followed by gunfire.”

One of the suspects was shot and injured and taken to hospital.

The other two suspects are on the run, police said.

By late yesterday afternoon, police and forensic experts were still at the scene.
