Off-duty security officer shot 5 times in Isipingo after noise complaint
A security officer was shot five times and killed in Isipingo after asking a group to lower their music, with one suspect still at large.
South City Security officer Sherwyne Reagan Thompson (50) died in the early hours of yesterday morning after he was shot in the back five times, allegedly by a group of individuals.
Co-owner Naadia Nobin told South Coast Sun that the brutal killing stripped the Isipingo community of a passionate security officer.
“At around 04:00 on March 30, five individuals were causing a disturbance in Lotus Park outside residential units. Sherwyne approached the individuals and requested them to lower the volume of their music as people were still sleeping. As he walked back to his home, they shot him five times.
“Thirteen to 15 shots were heard by members of the community. He was unarmed at the time and off duty. Three of the five individuals handed themselves over to the police, and one of the alleged shooters was arrested. One is still on the run,” said Nobin.
Thompson was a husband, a father of two adult children, and a grandfather. There was an outpouring of support for the family on social media following the news of his untimely death.
The Isipingo police were approached for comment, which was not received at the time of publishing.
