Co-owner of City South Security, Naadia Nobin, said the brutal killing stripped the Isipingo community of a passionate security officer.

“At around 04:00 on March 30, five individuals were causing a disturbance in Lotus Park outside residential units. Sherwyne approached the individuals and requested for them to lower the volume of their music as people were still sleeping. As he walked back to his home, they shot him five times. Thirteen to 15 shots were heard by members of the community. He was unarmed at the time and off duty. Three of the five individuals handed themselves over to the police, and one of the alleged shooters were arrested. One is still on the run,” said Nobin.

Thompson was a husband, a father of two adult children and a grandfather. There were outpourings of support for the family on social media following the news of his untimely death.

The Isipingo police were approached for a comment, which was not received at the time of publishing.
