Patient stabs another in Mpumalanga hospital
A 28-year-old man has been allegedly stabbed and killed by another patient at Evander Hospital, in Mpumalanga, yesterday.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Sibusiso Mbuli said the suspect allegedly used a drip to stab the 29-year-old victim several times in the face at about 2.30pm, Ridge Times reported.
Both patients were sharing a ward and were reportedly admitted on Tuesday, July 21. Mbuli added no one has been arrested yet, and police investigations are ongoing.

In a separate incident, Evander District Hospital, near Secunda, in Mpumalanga laid murder charges against two doctors from its hospital following the death of a teen mother after a caesarean operation.
“Preliminary clinical investigations revealed that the pair acted outside the rule by not adhering to prescribed clinical guidelines when attending to the teen pregnant mother,” said department of health spokesperson Joe Maila.
During the visit of Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi to the Evander District Hospital, it was also established that the two doctors had a “tendency to disregard clinical instructions” with impunity.
“There must be consequences; that’s the reason we also opened a criminal case with the South African Police Services”, Motsoaledi was quoted as saying.
“It did not make sense that she was taken to a private hospital because I do not have a medical aid,” said Mike Malaza, the deceased’s father.
“I was told she was critically ill and in ICU. However, I did not pay attention to it because I was arranging the funeral of the baby,” added Malaz.
