Petrol pump relief for under-pressure South Africans
Going down… filling up your vehicle will be a little less painful from Wednesday.
Following hot on the heels of South Africa’s Rugby World Cup triumph is the good news that fuel prices will decrease significantly on Wednesday.
Although the price of petrol has not dropped by as much as was predicted, the announcement today by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has added to the nation’s happiness levels.
Motorists will pay almost R2 less a litre for both grades of petrol, bringing the price back under R25/litre. It is the first time in four months that motorists have had a fuel decrease to celebrate.
There is one increase, with LP gas going up by R1.49 per kilogram (maximum retail price).
Here are the decreases per litre (Gauteng):
Both grades of petrol (93 and 95): R1.78
Diesel 0.05% sulphur: 85c (wholesale)
Diesel 0.005% sulphur: 82c (wholesale)
Illuminating paraffin: 97c (wholesale)
Illuminating paraffin: R1.30 (single maximum national retail price)
From Wednesday, 93 petrol will cost R23.44 inland and R22.72 at the coast, while 95 will cost R23.90 inland and R23.18 at the coast. Inland, diesel 0.05% will be R24.17 and 0.005% will be R24.40. At the coast, the cost will be R23.44 and R23.71, respectively.
