Petrol station robbers still at large

Police are still searching for two suspects who were captured by CCTV cameras carrying out an armed robbery at an Engen garage near Kempton Park.

Spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Katlego Mogale said members of the public have come forward with information about the culprits, Rekord Centurion reported.

“However, the information that we have received from the public could not help us to determine the whereabouts of the suspects,” she said.

The video footage taken at the filling station on the R21 on January 17 shows two passengers of a Volkswagen walking towards another Volkswagen at the petrol pump next to them.

The driver of the first Volkswagen appears to be sitting inside the car while his accomplices carry out the robbery.

One of the men pulls out what looks like a firearm as he approaches the victim’s car while the other man tries to open the boot.

The first robber grabs what appears to be a backpack out of the driver’s window. Another takes a bag from the boot.

Three petrol attendants are seen helplessly looking on as the incident unfolds. The alleged robbers are then seen driving off.

Mogale added police were making use of the footage in the search for the two men.

In November, video footage emerged showing suspects dancing around a car, seemingly to distract the driver, before opening the door and removing items the vehicle at a Caltex petrol station.
