Pietermaritzburg child (5) drowns in residential pool

A five-year-old tragically drowned in a residential pool in KZN on Monday afternoon despite desperate resuscitation efforts by medics, neighbours, and family.

A five-year-old has died after drowning in a pool at a home on Howick Road in Athlone, Pietermaritzburg, on Monday.

According to Mi7 National Group, the incident happened just after 13:00, The Witness reports.

“Upon arrival, paramedics found that a five-year-old child had drowned in a residential swimming pool. Neighbours and the child’s parents were performing CPR at the scene,” said Mi7.

Mi7 added that medics immediately took over advanced resuscitation efforts, but despite their best attempts, the child had already died.

“We pass on our condolences to the loved ones of the deceased.”
