Police arrest 4 after Osizweni tuck shop burglary

A toy pistol and live ammunition were found on one of the suspects following a business break-in in KZN.

Police arrested four young men yesterday after a foreign-owned tuck shop in Osizweni was broken into, allegedly by them.

Newcastle Advertiser reports that Amajuba District SAPS communications officer Constable Nonjabulo Langa confirmed that police received a call for assistance at about 11:00 regarding a business burglary in progress.

According to the tuck shop owner (an Ethiopian national), he was alerted by his landlord’s son, who informed him that people were breaking into his shop.

The owner then reported the incident to the authorities.

When police arrived on the scene, the alleged burglars attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended and arrested.

Ammunition and goods recovered

“Perishable goods to the value of about R5 000 were recovered from the suspects,” said Langa.

Police also recovered a toy pistol and three live 9mm rounds of ammunition from one of the men, who has been charged with unlawful possession of ammunition in addition to existing charges.

The four suspects, all aged 19 and 20, were charged with business burglary and are expected to appear in court soon.
