Police hunt 2 gunmen after fatal shooting at Evaton taxi rank
A man believed to be a member of a taxi association was killed by two shooters at a mall in the Vaal.
A man believed to be a member of the Evaton West Taxi Association was shot and killed at Evaton Mall, situated in the Vaal area, yesterday.
Sedibeng Ster reports that police responded to a shooting at a taxi rank, near the taxi association offices, and on their arrival were directed to the victim. He will be identified after the family has been informed.
Local police spokesperson Sergeant Tintswalo Ndhambi says that, according to an eyewitness, the victim was near the taxi rank when he noticed water leaking from underneath his vehicle.
“While inspecting it, he was approached by an unknown male who shot him in the head. A second shooter fired multiple shots at him, and continued shooting after he had fallen to the ground.”
Both shooters fled the scene and were not wearing balaclavas. They are described as being of average height and medium build with a light complexion.
The crime scene
Ndhambi adds that about 10 spent cartridges, believed to be from a 9mm firearm, were recovered at the scene.
“The deceased sustained multiple gunshot wounds. A case of murder has been opened, and investigations are ongoing.”

Sedibeng Ster reached out to the taxi association to confirm if the victim was a member, but no comment was received at the time of publishing.
