Police launch manhunt for five suspects after Pretoria armed robbery

Brooklyn police are searching for five suspects allegedly involved in an armed house robbery that happened in Menlopark, Pretoria on Saturday afternoon.

Spokesperson Warrant Officer Duane Lightfoot said the robbery happened around 14:50 and no one was injured.

“A lady in her late 40s was having visitors at her house who left at about 14:50. Before the electric gate could close she heard a noise at the gate and went to investigate. She was met by five men. One of them pointed her with a firearm and forced her back into the house,” he said.

Valuables such as TVs, cellphones, tablet, gate remote device, vehicle keys and jewellery were taken from the house before the suspects fled in an Audi A4 which had a false registration.

“The suspects are still at large. A case of armed robbery has been opened and will be investigated by Brooklyn detectives.”

Police requested any person with information concerning the case to contact the Brooklyn police station at 012-366-1700 or 10111.

CSI security Andrew Erlank who also responded to the incident said they were alerted to the incident by one of the neighbours through a WhatsApp community communique.

“A neighbour who was driving past the house saw the men while they were loading the property taken from the house into the car and he took pictures to alert the community group of the suspected robbery.

“After we saw the pictures we went there and saw the woman and her daughter standing outside the house with neighbours – by that time the suspects had already fled the scene.

“The woman and the daughter who were in the house when the robbery happened were quite shaken,” he said.

Erlank said that the security company would be on the lookout for the getaway car.
