Police officer allegedly kills wife and child

A police officer has been arrested after allegedly shooting dead his wife and daughter in Westview in Pretoria West.

Police central cluster spokesperson Captain Augustine Selepe said a concerned neighbour heard gun shots and went to the house and found two bodies lying in a pool of blood yesterday at about 11pm, Rekord Moot reported.

Selepe added the 46-year-old police officer from police VIP Close Protection unit, was found inside the house. The neighbour called police and paramedics. HIS wife and daughter were declared dead on the scene.

The motive behind the killings remains unknown. Police investigations are ongoing.

“The officer was arrested and the police were in the process of notifying the next of kin about the shooting,” added Selepe.

SA National Civics Organisation (Sanco) chairman, Nagesh Chetty condemned the killings.

“The minister of police needs to act and put a stop to the killing of family members by members of the police. We cannot keep on losing lives like this,” added Chetty.

In a separate incident, a police officer and his wife died in what appears to be a murder-suicide in Pretoria West, last week.

Police spokesperson Ann Selepe said it appears the sergeant shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself.

He was an off-duty officer employed within the Tactical Response Team stationed at Pretoria Central Police Station.

The motive behind the killings was unknown.
