Police officers foil planned drive-by shooting in Wentworth
KwaZulu-Natal’s provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Khombinkosi Jula commended the police officers for their persistence to maintain peace in the Wentworth area.
A multi-disciplinary operation was conducted within the Wentworth policing precinct after police officers received intelligence regarding a planned drive-by shooting of a gang by their rivals, recently, Rising Sun Chatsworth reports.
The police officers, who immediately responded, belong to the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit, Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit, Umlazi K9, Public Order Police and Metro Police.
Provincial police spokeswoman, Col Thembeka Mbele, said, “Police officers proceeded to the meeting spot on Woodville Road. The men spotted police and fled in different directions. Police officers gave chase and found a pistol with ammunition as well as 70 heroin tablets. The men and women in blue are continuing to monitor the area to prevent criminal activities.”

Col Mbele further stated that prior to the operation, police arrested a 30-year-old man for dealing in drugs after he was found in the flats on Major Calvert Street, allegedly selling heroin tablets.
“He was arrested and charged for dealing in drugs. Police recovered heroin tablets and cash received from drug trade,” she added.
