Police probe attempted murder after Houghton law firm shooting
A bodyguard was injured when gunmen opened fire outside a Johannesburg law firm, with police investigating a suspected targeted attack.
A suspected targeted shooting took place in Houghton yesterday, leaving one person wounded.
Rosebank Killarney Gazette reports that, according to police, four individuals arrived at a law firm for a consultation when gunmen opened fire on their vehicle at the entrance.
A bodyguard accompanying the group sustained a gunshot wound to the leg while attempting to flee and was treated at the scene before being taken for further medical care.
Local police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirms that officers responded to the incident and found the injured victim on arrival.
“Information suggests that four clients were arriving to consult with their attorney when shots were fired at their Ford Ranger bakkie at the entrance of the firm,” she says.
Suspects flee scene
The suspects reportedly fled the scene in a silver-grey Jeep. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage, but police believe the attack may have been targeted.
11th Avenue, between 5th and 6th Street, was closed while investigations were underway.
A case of attempted murder has been opened, and police investigations continue.
