Policewoman brutally gunned down while serving Ladysmith community

Residents have described the murder as callous, senseless and deeply tragic

The Ladysmith community is mourning the sad passing of a police officer who was gunned down in Ezakheni B-Section on Tuesday evening (August 18).

The incident, that has sent shock waves throughout Ladysmith, happened in Thembalethu Road.

The policewoman who was killed served as a constable in the Crime Prevention Unit at Ezakheni police station.

A source close to the story commented that the constable was on her way to work when she noticed two women who appeared to be stranded at a service station in Ladysmith. It is believed that she picked them up and gave them a lift to their homes in Ezakheni.

The policewoman was brutally gunned down while giving the women a lift home.

It is believed that the shooting took place in the same area where five men were shot dead by unknown suspects in March this year. One person survived that shooting on March 5.

Residents living in the vicinity of these shootings say that other murders have also been committed in the area and no arrests have been made.

Some are even speculating that serial killers might be on the loose.

What has also shocked residents is that this policewoman was killed while innocently helping people in need, and they have described the murder as callous, senseless and deeply tragic.
