PPE delays first day of voting

"We came to the voting station at around 6am hoping we will start the process at 7am and then do home visits from 8am"

Delays in the delivery of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has interrupted some special home voting.

One of the agents at Laduma voting station in Pietermarizburg said the problem they are facing is that PPEs have not yet been delivered.

“We came to the voting station at around 6am hoping we will start the process at 7am and then do home visits from 8am. We were told there is the truck on its way from Durban to deliver PPEs, so we are worried about hoping it will take for that truck to offload PPEs in each and every voting station. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) indicated 12pm but we are worried,” said the agent.

The Laduma voting station also services the Zondi royal household and the delays will impact King Nsikayezwe Zondi who is hosting elders there today to assist his community in voting.
“We are worried as everyone who is supposed to vote today may not be able to do so as they told us there is no second chance,” said a resident from the area.
Umgungundlovu District manager for the IEC, Khulekani Mdadane conceded there was a problem with the delivery of PPE’s but said everything is going according to plan in all voting stations.
” The delay of the the PPE’s only affected home visits, but at all voting stations things are in order,” he said.
