Pretoria CIT heist leaves guard in critical condition

The guard was airlifted to hospital after he was stabilised on the scene.

A cash-in-transit (CIT) security guard is in critical condition after suffering multiple gunshot wounds during a robbery late last night in Silverton.

Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the call and upon arrival found remnants of the cash van which had been bombed by an unknown number of suspects and had crashed on Watloo Road.

“Advanced Life Support intervention was needed to stabilise the guard before he was airlifted by the Netcare911 aeromedical helicopter to a specialist facility for the definitive care that he required,” says Emer-G-Med Spokesperson Kyle Van Reenen.

No other colleagues on duty with the guard were injured.

An investigation headed by SAPS is currently underway. Residents with any information pertaining to this incident are urged to contact local authorities.
