Pretoria cops seek son after dad’s murder, mom’s stabbing
A couple's son is sought in connection with the murder of his father and attempted murder of his mother last week.
Police in Pretoria are searching for Jonas Diphofe Lekala (30) in connection with the murder of his father and attempted murder of his mother.
Local police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johannes van Dyk is pleading with the public to help find the Lekala who is still at large.
He says Lekala is wanted in connection with the brutal murder of his father, John Hani, and the stabbing of his mother, who has been hospitalised.
The incident occurred on November 29 when the couple were attacked, allegedly by the suspect who demanded money.
“The man is wanted for stabbing both victims with a knife and glass bottle and one eyewitness was identified. The suspect is still at large,” adds Van Dyk.
The victim’s brother, Tim Mashifana, says the family wants justice because his brother ‘died like a dog’.
Mashifana adds that he received a call from neighbours that his brother was bleeding to death after being attacked and stabbed by his son.
“We rushed to the scene and found police, and our brother lying in the pool of blood with many stab wounds in his stomach, neck and face.”
He says the information they received from tenants and neighbours was that at about 05:00, a man, believed to be his brother’s son, demanded money from the victim.
Mashifana says a tenant staying on the property heard the attack and managed to wrestle the suspect to the ground while screaming for help. The suspect then fled the scene.
About his brother’s murder, he says: “He was brutally killed without any remorse.”
Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the suspect is urged to contact the police on 08600 10111.
