Pretoria hospital horror: Family lays charge of assault
Martha Marais was taken to Mamelodi hospital on Tuesday afternoon and by Wednesday evening she was discovered tied up under a steel bench.
The family of the 76-year-old elderly woman who was found tied to a steel bench at the Mamelodi regional hospital have laid assault charges against the hospital on Friday afternoon, Rekord East reports.
Martha Marais was referred by a clinic to the state hospital after she was initially vomiting and not able to keep any food in.
Marais was taken to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon and by Wednesday evening she was discovered tied up under a steel bench.
“We opened a case of assault but the charge might change during the investigation,” family representative Virginia Keppler confirmed to the media.
The case was opened at the Mamelodi East police station.
Marais is still being treated at the hospital.
Keppler told Rekord earlier that Marais is doing well “but is still very traumatised”.
