A 37-year-old man appeared briefly in the Pretoria magistrate’s court for allegedly raping a 20-year–old woman in the east of Pretoria, Pretoria Rekord reports.

The man who cannot be named to protect the victim was arrested on 31 August, after police searched for him for weeks.

It is alleged that the man had taken in the woman as an adoptive daughter in June this year, and had been forcing himself on her ever since.

“The suspect played hiding tricks from the police since 24 August, until he was arrested on Sunday, 30 August,” said Boschkop police spokesperson Sergeant Yeroboam Mbatsane.

The case was postponed for confirmation of address and further investigation.
