Pretoria mechanic shot dead, reportedly after arguing with client
A man has been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing a mechanic in his car.
An altercation between a mechanic and his client left one person dead and another behind bars near Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, this week.
Tshwane metro police department (TMPD) spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba says TMPD members in Region 2 were conducting patrols around 19:00 when they received an alert from a member of the public.
There was a vehicle parked on the road with hazard lights on.
Mahamba says the officers approached the vehicle, which was on the corner of the R101 and Tambotie Street, and found a man who had been shot and killed inside it.
“He was found with empty cartridges lying around the scene.
“An eyewitness approached the officers and gave information regarding the shooting.”
The TMPD officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle at a garage on Soutpan Road.
“The suspect was then arrested and found in possession of a firearm and ammunition,” says Mahamba.
The suspect was taken back to the crime scene.
He said upon further preliminary investigation, it was found the deceased was a mechanic who was in the process of fixing the suspect’s vehicle.
“An argument ensued while they were inside the mechanic’s vehicle, which led to the shooting.”
He said the suspect was arrested and handed over to the SAPS for further investigation.
