Pretoria residents stunned by crocodile next to road

The crocodile was found metres from a school which fortunately was closed for the holiday.

Roodeplaat residents in the North of Pretoria on Monday spotted a 1.5-meter-long crocodile next to the road.

Pieter Pieterse, a resident who lives in the area, says this was not the first incident where such a reptile was spotted.

“This is the second one we have seen in Kameeldrift. It was not very long,” says Pieterse.

He says the crocodile comes from a nearby crocodile farm, which he estimates is about 10km from where it was found.

Pieterse says the crocodile was unharmed and was safely returned to the farm.

Another resident, Stella Louw, says she thinks the crocodile came from the nearby river

“I know there is a farm nearby, but I have never encountered such an animal,” Louw told Pretoria Rekord.

She says the crocodile was just meters away from a school. However, there were no learners at the school because of the holidays.
