Pretoria woman electrocuted

It is believed that the woman stepped on a live electric wire.

A 38-year-old woman was electrocuted when she stepped on a live electric wire in the east of Pretoria on Sunday afternoon.

An anonymous report was sent to the station that a woman was electrocuted at Skierlik informal settlement, said Boschkop police spokesperson Sergeant Yeroboam Mbatsane.

“On arrival, they found the lifeless body of a woman on the ground. It is believed she stepped on a live electric wire.”

Police have opened an inquest docket for further investigations.

Boschkop station commander Lieutenant Colonel Abakona Sithole warned the community to stop illegal electricity connections.

“First and foremost, we send our condolences to the family of the deceased. We want to warn and alert the community that it is a crime to connect electricity illegally. Perpetrators found committing the act may be charged with tampering with essential infrastructure and may face a lengthy jail term.”

Mbatsane said police have been conducting several operations in the area to remove the illegal connections.
