Pretoria woman in the dock for boyfriend’s murder
Neighbours called emergency services and the police when they noted the woman come out of her home with a bloody knife.
A 23-year-old Pretoria east woman, who was arrested for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend to death, will appear in court for a bail application this week.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Yeroboam Mbatsane said the woman was arrested on Sunday in the Lethabong informal settlement home she shared with her 34-year-old boyfriend.
“It is alleged that a fight broke out about a phone that belonged to the man. The woman then allegedly stabbed him,” he said.
Mbatsane said the neighbours called the police after seeing the woman coming out of her home with a bloody knife.
“The neighbours went inside the house where they found the boyfriend with a stab wound and they called the police and ambulances for help.”
He said the man sustained a stab wound to the upper body, but that ‘he succumbed to his injuries at the Mamelodi hospital the same day’.
When the police arrived on the scene, the woman seemed to be in shock and disbelief.
“It was as if she could not believe what had happened,” said Mbatsane.
The woman will appear in the Hatfield Magistrate’s Court soon for a formal bail application.
Earlier this year, there was a similar stabbing that shocked residents when Pretoria security officer Arthur John Attie Dobson (45) was found dead with a stab wound to his chest on Valentine’s Day.
Dobson’s partner Natasha Beyers (32) was arrested and charged with the murder.
According to the NPA, the couple (who has a seven-year-old son) allegedly got into an argument about a cigarette before Dobson allegedly assaulted Beyers and she stabbed him with a knife.
