An R100 000 reward has been offered following the murder of a security guard at Greyvan Farm near Komatipoort, reports Lowvelder.

The reward follows the fatal attack on Sunday (August 23), which has raised fresh concerns about security at the farm after a similar incident less than two months earlier.

Police have opened a murder case following Sunday night’s attack, but the suspects remain at large. The motive has not yet been established.

The latest incident follows a violent attack at the same farm on July 5, when security guard Fanuel Tivane (63) was allegedly attacked by eight armed men.

CCTV footage obtained by Lowvelder showed five of the suspects repeatedly striking Tivane with a firearm before kicking and beating him.

The attackers allegedly dragged Tivane to the farm’s banana packhouse, where they tied him up before fleeing.

Tivane suffered several broken ribs and multiple head wounds that required stitches.

At the time, a R20 000 reward was offered for information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of the suspects.

According to police, the July attackers gained access to the property after allegedly using bolt cutters to cut through chains. A 9mm cartridge case and bolt cutters were recovered at the scene.

Police spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe says preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects fled with aluminium lights.

The July attack remains under investigation, with police appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
