A man was arrested after he was found with drugs suspected to be cocaine at his home in the upmarket suburb of Somerset Park.
A 63-year-old man has been arrested after he was found with cocaine worth an estimated street value of R7.9m in his home in Somerset Park today, reports Northglen News.
An intelligence-driven operation led police to the man’s home at a complex in the upmarket area.
Durban North SAPS spokesperson Nonhlanhla Shozi said police also recovered R30 000 in cash and three cellphones from the suspect, believed to be a foreign national.
“The operation involved the Durban North SAPS Trio Crimes Unit, the Newlands East Trio Crimes Unit as well as the Durban North Crime Prevention. Police had been monitoring the individual and he was arrested on Monday morning. The drugs, suspected to be cocaine, weighed approximately 6.95kg,” she said.
Shozi added the suspect is yet to appear in court and said station management congratulated the officers on the arrest.
“The Durban North SAPS station management is pleased how our units have worked hand in hand to make this arrest. This is the second big bust in our precinct and we are sending a clear message that this is a no-go area for drugs,” she said.
Meanwhile the Durban North CPF have also welcomed the arrest.
“Police have stepped up operations and it’s great to see the hard work being put in behind the scenes paying off. We look forward to more arrests and we welcome this operation,” said Darryl Oliver, the public relations officer for the CPF.
