Relative arrested after child’s body found in dustbin in the Cape Flats
Two suspects face murder charges following an investigation into the fatal stabbing of a young girl in the Western Cape.
A man and woman are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court in Cape Town today (August 18) in connection with the death of a five-year-old girl.
The child was killed in Samora Machel in the Cape Flats area on Sunday (August 16). Her body was discovered in a dustbin on Duinefontein Road with a stab wound to her neck.
Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said detectives from the provincial serious violent crimes unit traced the case to a family member following investigations.
“A 35-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman have since been arrested and face charges of murder,” added Twigg.
Detectives probe fatal stabbing
He said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death are ongoing.
