Reserve bank evacuated following fire alarm

The South African Reserve Bank in Pretoria Central was evacuated this morning after a fire alarm went off.

According to Tshwane Emergency Services (TES) spokesperson Johan Pieterse, emergency services, including firefighters and ambulances, responded to the scene after a fire alarm on the 32nd floor went off, Rekord East reported.

“When we arrived, we evacuated the entire building to ensure everyone’s safety. Firefighters then proceeded to the 32nd floor, but could find no smoke or trace of any fire,” Pieterse said.

“We will now go floor to floor to ensure that there is no fire and that everything is safe before we let anyone back in the building,” he added.

By 9:30am, Fire and Rescue personnel had declared the building safe.
