The investigations into the string of murders in Ekurhuleni saw two major developments today (September 14): The identification of the fourth victim and the discovery of a fifth body in Olifantsfontein.  
 
According to the Kempton Express, the family of Elizabeth Tsonstso Moselakgomo (38) has confirmed that the body found in Kempton Park on Saturday (September 12) has been positively identified as hers. 

Following an agonising period of uncertainty after Moselakgomo failed to return home on Wednesday (September 9), her family went to the state mortuary, where they were able to identify her. 

“The past few days have been an emotional rollercoaster for the family. They had tirelessly searched for Moselakgomo and circulated missing-person flyers in the hope that information would lead to her safe return,” said family spokesperson Dawn Gounden. 

Moselakgomo leaves behind a child, family and many friends. 

“She touched the lives of many people who had the privilege of knowing her and her loss has left a deep void in the lives of those who loved and cared for her,” added Gounden.  

While the identification brings the family the painful reality of knowing what happened to Moselakgomo, it also provides closure after days of uncertainty. 

Police investigation and public gratitude 

The family now hopes that the circumstances surrounding Moselakgomo’s death will be thoroughly investigated and that justice will prevail. 

“They place their trust in the SAPS to conduct a comprehensive investigation and to ensure that those responsible, if criminality is established, are held accountable,” said Gounden. 

She added that the family wished to thank everyone who assisted with the searches, shared information about Moselakgomo, offered support and stood alongside them during the difficult time. 

“Moselakgomo will be remembered, she will be mourned, and her family will continue to seek justice for her.” 

5th body discovered in Olifantsfontein 

Earlier today, police confirmed that a fifth body was discovered in Clayville Ext 26, Olifantsfontein. 

The woman was found partially naked beside a road, prompting police to treat the area as a murder scene. 

The discovery comes as a multidisciplinary team investigates the deaths of four other women whose bodies were found in Kempton Park between July and September. 

The latest discovery occurred some distance from the locations where the previous four bodies were found. 

Police have not confirmed whether the cases are connected but are investigating all possible links. 

SAPS, metro police, investigative psychology experts and search-and-rescue teams are working together to establish what happened and whether there are similarities between the cases. 

Forensic examination and SAPS appeal 

The woman found in Olifantsfontein has not yet been identified. 

Forensic investigators collected evidence at the scene, which police hope will assist in identifying the woman and determining the circumstances of her death. 

National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe urged families with missing relatives to report them missing at their nearest police station. 

Mathe also urged young girls to be extra vigilant about their movements. 

She said investigators were also considering the possibility that the latest victim may have been killed elsewhere before her body was dumped at the scene. 

She said most of the five women had been found either naked or partially naked, describing it as quite disturbing. She noted that members were working around the clock to put those responsible behind bars. 

The latest victim’s body showed no obvious signs of decomposition, which police said could indicate that her death occurred recently.  

Police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
