Schalekamp family hires Bolhuis team to assist with White River murder case
Private investigators join Marco Schalekamp’s defence as questions mount over the White River shooting and his denied bail.
Private detective Mike Bolhuis and his investigative team were appointed by the Schalekamp family on Friday to assist with murder-accused Marco Schalekamp’s case after he was denied bail on Tuesday.
According to Lowvelder, investigators Jacques Visser and his son, Ruan Visser, will work on the case together.
They told Lowvelder they plan to meet with the investigating officer, Sergeant Mxolisi Keis, and Schalekamp’s lawyer Leendert Viljoen to discuss unanswered questions.
Some social media users have been speculating on Facebook about who shot Schalekamp and questioning the police investigation.
Schalekamp stands accused of premeditated murder and attempted murder following the fatal shooting of Pieter Burger and the wounding of Arno van Niekerk near the White River Rugby Club in the early hours of June 5.

“It’s concerning that Arno van Niekerk has not been arrested yet, since he was at the scene and Schalekamp sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the face and neck,” Jacques said.
He added that they would like to understand why Schalekamp was at the scene with his child and dog, saying it does not make sense for him to go to a rugby club pub with his underaged child.
Jacques also believes Schalekamp should have been granted bail, as he has a permanent address in Barberton and was the only person arrested.
The private investigators are trying to gather as much information as possible and have urged anyone who can assist to come forward.
Schalekamp is expected to appear in court again on August 21.
